Review: The Emmet Ray 31 August

It was a pleasantly warm evening, the last day of of August, and the room was full of friends, many of whom were singers, so we had an attentive and sympathetic audience. We started with Surrey With The Fringe On Top from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, Oklahoma and ended with Indian Summer – the tear that comes after June time’s laughter. We played a number of mid 20th century jazz standards and lesser known tunes plus two up tempo bossas by AC Jobim: Chega De Saudade and Favela. The programme included several songs I’ve always wanted to sing but for whatever reason, never had before, so a milestone of sorts was reached.
