Volver 88

Volver is the name of a Tango Cancion written by Carlos Gardel in 1935. The song is about the poignant return of a man to his childhood home in the hope and the fear that he may find his first love still there. Laura learned this song during her mother’s last illness. While she was painting the picture she described it to her mother and asked what she thought it should be called. She replied, “Eighty-eight”. Since eighty-eight could be viewed as a symbol for parallel infinities, it seemed fitting when applied to a painting that was meant to represent the spirit of Laura’s parents. The items in the picture belonged to them. The vase is feminine and the lamp sheds the light that we are all hopefully traveling towards. So the name of the painting is Volver, to return and 88: infinity doubled.
