The summer of 2026 brought relentless widespread devastation from global warming and geopolitical upheaval. Corruption and cruelty were all out in the open, as if it was normal. Even in the private, silent fecundity of the garden one could sense an underlying menace, but the flowers continued to bloom despite everything, and it was a good year for the roses.
